Road Safety Risks and Information – Bournemouth
Bournemouth lies on the south coast of Dorset between Poole and Christchurch. It is a popular destination during the summer and is also very high, with accident statistics scattered throughout the road network.
The A338 and the A3049 are the main roads crossing Bournemouth, and both have many severe and sometimes fatal collisions noted along these routes. The A338 merges from the A35 Poole Road and links to the A31 near Ringwood. There have been numerous fatal accidents along this route, and it is likely that most of these involved drivers unfamiliar with the area. This is a common occurrence in popular holiday destinations, so it is vital that you understand and follow your own directions well and are aware of other drivers who may be struggling with theirs. Being able to anticipate the actions of other drivers is a skill that can save lives and should be encouraged more. The A3049 crosses Bournemouth directly from Poole to Ringwood. It has very high accident rates, especially around the Adasral Road and Dorset Way intersection, similar to the Victoria Road and New Road traffic light junctions.
The A35 Christchurch Road is a hectic road with public transport routes and many retail shops and is the main route from Bournemouth centre through to Boscombe and Christchurch. This is a bustling route, and accidents along this route are numerous and have, on many occasions, been very severe and sometimes life-changing. This is a highly populated area, and care should always be taken to prevent issues. The A35 continues through Boscombe and onto Pokesdown, where a rail station can be very busy on match days. Numerous crash sites are nearby, especially near the Ashley Road one-way system.
Towards the beach areas, West Cliffe Road and Priory Road are areas that have collision sites, especially at the Exeter and Bath Road roundabout. At the end of Bath Road is the Lansdowne Roundabout, this is a particularly hazardous roundabout with five exits. This has seen numerous crashes in the past few years. Urban accidents may be less severe due to lower speeds, but they can be very chaotic and can lead to road closures in already congested areas.
This is a short outline of crash sites in Bournemouth. Please contact us if you have any specific roads you travel across the area and are curious to discover what parts are at higher risk of collisions. We offer a free-of-charge service to anyone interested.
