Cheshire has a great mix of rural, urban and motorway routes, which allows us to provide training on a wide range of roads. The M60, M62, M6 and M56 are motorways we use for training in Cheshire, along with a range of rural roads, or roads that quickly lead to more challenging, rural roads such as the A49 towards Warrington from the south, and the A580 from east to west.
Our routes vary but typically we head out of Cheshire sometimes towards Lancashire, or south towards Shropshire. Driving over towards Manchester provides us with a great backdrop to urban driver training, with a range of cycle and bus lanes and varying speed limits to get to grips with.

Road Safety Risks and Information – Cheshire
The M6 motorway runs from Wolverhampton through to Liverpool, ends near Gretna Green, and has many junctions linking towns such as Crewe and Nantwich via the A500 and the A51, the A534 to Congleton and Macclesfield. Other fast A road routes in Cheshire to be aware of are the A556 linking Manchester to Knutsford and the joining of the M56 at the north of the county towards Ellesmere Port, east and Stockport to the west. There have been many severe accidents on the stretch of the M6 between Madeley Heath and Barthomley, and further north, junction 17 linking the A534, Sandbach to Congleton, where there seem to be more than the average amount of serious and fatal accidents. Junctions 20 and 20a, the intersections of the M56 and the A50, are also challenging areas. Drivers must be more cautious than usual when driving through junction areas, as the possibility that other drivers may be entering and exiting the junctions at the wrong speed is always an issue.
Cheshire has a few rural routes that have seen higher-than-average accident statistics, such as the B153 and the B5152 around Frodsham, Weaverham and Cuddington villages. Other hazardous areas are the A525 between Woore and Whitchurch and the narrow lanes leading from here into the villages of Ash Magna, Swanbach and Broomhall Green. We teach drivers to read the road furniture – lines and signs, and this works very well for rural roads where there is little warning signage.
Cheshire has a few large towns and cities, and some of the worse affected areas for serious collision sites are the intersections of the A41 and the A5117 at Elsmere Port and the A51 leading into the ring road of St Oswald’s Way in Chester. Crewe is another town that has more than its fair share of accidents in the urban routes of Valley Road and West Street around the town centre.
These are only a tiny outline of the many collision sites in the county. If you have any specific roads you travel in the area and are keen to discover what areas are at higher risk of collisions, please get in touch with us. We offer a free-of-charge service to anyone interested.
