Location Overview – Bradford is a vibrant city in West Yorkshire in the north of England, and it is the second-largest subdivision of West Yorkshire after Leeds, which is approximately 8.6 miles to the east. Bradford grew steadily in the 19th century as a national centre of textile production, particularly wool and was a boomtown of the Industrial Revolution. It still has much listed Victorian architecture, including the grand Italianate City Hall. Bradford is within a green belt region extending into the borough and surrounding counties. The green belt covers most of the Bradford built-up area, separating towns and villages across the borough. Some larger outlying regions, such as Cottingley, Bingley, Wilsden, and Thornton, are exempt from the green belt area. Still, nearby smaller villages, hamlets, and rural regions such as Denholme Gate, Brunthwaite, Keelham, Laycock Esholt, Micklethwaite, Goose Eye, Stanbury, Hainsworth, Tong, and Harecroft are within the designated area. Much of the semi-rural land on the fringes is also included. Bradford will soon become the UK’s City of Culture in 2025 after winning the UK City of Culture designation in May 2022. Bradford has a very well-laid-out transport network, and we have carried out Advanced Driver training around the Bradford area.

During our advanced/defensive training, we try and cover a wide range of things, including:

* Creating increased powers of anticipation and planning
* Being aware of speed limits and controlling your speed
* Improving a driver’s overall attitude to driving on UK roads
* Safer driving on motorways, rural roads and in the town
* Educating drivers about the rules of the road
* A better understanding of the reasons for road rage
* Manoeuvres
* Driving in dangerous weather
* Risks linked to urban driving and being aware of at-risk road users
* Learning the difference between different skids
* Learning to drive in a more economical way
* How to anticipate the actions of other motorists

After training, you will be sent a full driving report so that you can see the standard of driving at the start and end of the training and see improvements made and in what areas. Each client’s unique driving report will provide some beneficial and insightful information. Each report is fully documented and has a unique verification number so anyone can check back for an original copy with us. This is sometimes useful if an employer has asked an employee to take driver training.

The personal benefits of our advanced and defensive driver training:

* Increase your levels of skill and overall confidence
* Remove any risky driving characteristics
* Consider issues that may be specific to your driving
* Increase car control on all types of roads
* Reduce wear and tear on your car
* Improve your MPG – get more miles from your car

Looking for fleet driver training? Driver training for business clients offers a range of benefits that include:

* Taking control of your occupational road risk
* Demonstrate your Duty of Care
* Qualify for possibly reduced fleet insurance costs
* Show your drivers you care
* Help drivers who may be having specific issues with their driving
* Save on fleet fuel costs – advanced trained drivers can reduce their fuel costs by 20% or more

Trunk roads access Bradford; the A647 between Leeds and Halifax via Queensbury, the A650 between Wakefield and Keighley, the A658 to Harrogate and the A6036 to Halifax via Shelf. The M606, a spur of the M62 motorway, connects Bradford with the national motorway network. Leeds Bradford Airport is 6 to the northeast of the city. In the last five years, we have undertaken advanced driver training for private clients and larger corporate fleets across the Bradford district and most of West Yorkshire. The junctions of the A647 and the A6181 are ideal places to take driver training to increase your confidence with large interchanges and dual carriageways and being surrounded by rural B roads to help with driving in rural areas. Our highly trained and experienced tutors have excellent local knowledge, and they will come to you. You can use your own car or van for the training.

Half or Full Day?

The half-day is ideal for those with many drivers to train and want to take advantage of the time and cost savings associated with such. The full day is perfect for drivers who wish to experience an intensive advanced driving course and want to iron out any bad habits.

We tend to find many clients opt for the full-day session – and book one driver for the morning session and one for the afternoon – there is no additional charge for this, and it works really well.

When we train drivers, we look at building the course around their specific needs. We initially let them drive for a short period. Then after a friendly debrief, we introduce several advanced driving techniques such as forward planning, car control, advanced observation, and much more.

The central part of the course is designed to improve the driver – and we find the best approach here is to work on their specific driving style and requirements and adjust the training to fit their needs.

Talk to us:

Our fully trained team are ready to chat with you. They also offer a non-judgemental approach for those that wish to open up and discuss specific issues. For many, this is just the first step in reaching out on their journey to confident driving.

Please get in touch with us online or call us. Whether you’re a business client or a private individual, we can help you. We aim to get back to email enquiries within 2 hours during working hours.

Road Safety Risks and Information – Bradford

Bradford is a highly populated and busy area in West Yorkshire and is served by several fast A roads linking to Manchester, Leeds, and Sheffield. Being so vastly populated, it is only natural that high rates of collisions will follow. Some very severe and life-changing accidents occur often, with many being fatal in the Bradford area in the past few years.

The A6177 ring road surrounds Bradford and has severe collision sites scattered along the entire road, with most collisions occurring around traffic lights and roundabout junctions. The Southgate Roundabout, which links Halifax Road to the A6177 and the M606, is an accident-prone area; this is possibly because it is a large and challenging intersection. Good lane positioning is critical for staying safe.

It is also wise for motorists to be aware of other drivers who may be struggling with lane exits on large urban roundabouts, and a little patience can go a long way in preventing such accidents. The intersection of Manchester Road is also a fast and busy junction, where good observations are particularly needed to avoid issues. The meeting of Great Horton Road and All Saints Road is a busy intersection with traffic lights, and this is a busy junction as it leads into the centre of Bradford. There is also an active public transport route that shares these roads, so it is vital that drivers need to be aware that passengers may be crossing in front of paused buses. Many serious accidents have been noted along these roads because of such issues. It is a similar story along Legrams Lane and Listerhills Road.

The A647 travels into Bradford from Leeds, and as it reaches the centre, it becomes the A6181, where it circles the Park and joins Sunbridge Road. This is a hectic route with numerous crash sites, some very severe. In rush hours, the traffic can be very congested in these areas. With public transport using the roads as well, it is important to use correct lane positioning as there are many traffic lights and roundabout junctions leading to other areas of Bradford. The A650, Wakefield Road, is a route that has seen some very severe and, sadly, sometimes fatal accidents. These have happened at the New Hay and Neville Road intersection and near the service station entrance at Foundry Lane.

This is a short outline of collision hot spots in Bradford. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any specific roads you travel on in the area and are keen to discover what parts are at higher risk of collisions. We offer a free-of-charge service to anyone interested.
