Introduction & Location Overview – Doncaster is the second-largest settlement in South Yorkshire and the largest metropolitan district in England by area. The borough lies within the historic county of Yorkshire. The borough includes the smaller towns of Conisbrough, Mexborough, Bentley, Adwick-le-Street, and Thorne, as well as rural villages and areas of open countryside.

Doncaster is a historic market town often known for its racing and railway heritage and has one of the few oldest football clubs in the UK, Doncaster Rovers, founded in 1879. Doncaster is an important regional town with excellent transport links and recreational sites. Sheffield lies 17 miles southwest, Leeds 25 miles northwest, York 30 miles to the north, Hull 36 miles northeast, and Lincoln 32 miles southeast. Suburbs of Doncaster include Armthorpe, Sprotbrough, and Bessacarr. The towns of Mexborough, Bawtry, Conisbrough, Hatfield and Stainforth, to name a few, are only a short distance away within the metropolitan borough.

We offer bespoke driver training for a range of clients in Doncaster and surrounding areas (and all of the UK). Our courses include:

  1. General advanced training (van and car)
  2. Motorway training
  3. Post Collision confidence
  4. Young drivers
  5. Specific van driver training and much more

All our courses are bespoke to your needs and requirements.  Whether full or half days, here are the things we aim to cover:

  1. Having an improved appreciation for speed and its consequences
  2. Developing more of a positive mindset for continual improvement when on the road
  3. Understanding what you need to be aware of as a driver for safety on all roads, including motorways
  4. Looking at your specific vehicle control – including new technology and how it is designed to help you stay safe
  5. Understanding the new up-to-date rules and regulations of the road
  6. Dealing with the problem of road rage – and how to manage other driver’s emotions
  7. Reversing and slow manoeuvres – ideal for vans but also useful for cars
  8. Being more aware of the extra safety precautions when driving in urban traffic
  9. How to identify and deal with skids – and, more important, how to stop them before they start
  10. Eco-safe driving to save fuel and the wear and tear of your car or van

Once the training has ended, a PDF report will usually be sent 3-5 days after the course, with specific things assessed such as confidence, forward observations, attitude, speed awareness, and much more. We rank drivers from Poor to Excellent in these areas at the start and after training. This report is handy as it’s bespoke to the driver and gives valuable tips for safer driving in the future. Each report is verified and documented with us – proof a driver has had training with a DVSA (Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency) registered professional driver trainer.

There are several great benefits of taking driver training with Drivers Domain UK:

  7. Full and half-day options
  8. All training is on-road

Doncaster has an excellent transport network of both A roads and motorways, with the M18 north and east of the town and the A1 to the west and south. The junction of the A630, A638 and the A18 is an excellent area for extra motorway or confidence training. In the recent few years, we have carried out training for private clients and corporate drivers in Balby, Sunnyfields, Old Cantley, Branton, and Rossington.

Our tutors will come to you, taking you out on the road in your own vehicle.

Whether you are a corporate client training several drivers or a private individual – we have many courses, all tailored especially for the driver to increase skill and safety.

Our courses are available for both car and van drivers.

3.5hr –The benefit of this shorter course is that it’s the lowest-priced option. The disadvantage is that for some drivers, it is sometimes not quite long enough, but it is ideal for companies training two or more drivers in separate areas.

2 x 3.5hr – This is very beneficial for clients who feel a full day would be too intense and need the split to help them absorb more over a more extended period. Often a driver gets homework from the first session, so they can practice what has been covered to help them with session two. Older drivers and those with confidence issues often opt for these courses.

7hr full day – Although a full day can be hard work for some, a full day is more cost-effective than 2 x 3.5hr. It’s ideal for those who are pushed for time. If your company has asked you to do this course, perhaps you feel a 7hr session would work better for you. We can split a full day for two drivers, so one driver is trained AM, and then one is trained PM.

We offer longer course durations for those with specific issues and offer 3, 4 and 5 x 3.5hr options. These are often taken over a several-week period and are ideal if you have deep-rooted driving issues or have not driven for a long time.

Road Safety Risks and Information – Doncaster

Doncaster is served by the M18 and the A1 motorways, with several fast A road routes such as the A630, A635 and the A638. All of these routes have very high crash statistics, so it is essential to be aware of the hotspots if you intend to travel in the area.

Junction 37 of the A1 is the Doncaster Bypass, which links the A635 from Barnsley. There are several accidents found at this intersection. Many of these are centred around the roundabout and may be due to poor directions and lane exiting, so it is vital that you are in the correct lane to avoid collisions. The A635 continues into Doncaster via Barnsley Road, where collision rates soar, especially during rush hour traffic. Some of the worst affected areas are close to junctions and traffic lights, and at the junction of York Road, the intersection is quite problematic for many drivers. Continuing into Doncaster Centre, York Road meets St Mary Roundabout and the A19, Sprotbrough Road and North Bridge Road. This roundabout is exceptionally high with collision sites, especially The Bentley Road A19 exits. Most urban accidents happen near traffic lights and roundabouts, so it is vital to always be aware of the intentions of other drivers when possible, as this will always help you stay safe. At Junction 36, the A1 links the A630 High Road from Rotherham, and this enters Doncaster centre from the southwest. The Baltby Road interchange connecting the A18 is a very challenging junction with numerous accidents noted.

From the M18 south of the city, the A6182 links to the A18 as does the A638 and the collision rates along both routes are higher than average, suggesting that in rush hour traffic, a lack of clear observations and indications can be disastrous. As with most urban inner-city roads, public transport routes can lead to congestion, and often, accidents can be found near bus stops and taxi ranks, where passengers can cross roads without much thought. Needless accidents such as these can be most worrying as impatience is often a cause, so drivers must make sure they are calm and composed in such areas and to make sure they are fully aware of pedestrians and cyclists using the routes. Cleveland Street, Hall Gate, and Wood Street are closer to the city centre and have very high collision rates. East Laith Gate and the junction to Park Road are especially perilous, too. The narrower streets near many city centres can be easily congested, and this is why so many accidents are found in such areas.

If you have any specific roads you travel on in the Doncaster area and are keen to discover what parts are at higher risk of collisions, please get in touch with us. We offer a free-of-charge service to anyone interested.
