Location Overview – Greenwich is a town in southeast London, within the historic county of Kent and Greater London. It is situated 5.5 miles southeast of Charing Cross. Greenwich is known for its maritime history, giving its name to the Greenwich Meridian and Greenwich Mean Time. The maritime connections of Greenwich were much celebrated, with the siting of Gipsy Moth IV and the Cutty Sark next to the riverfront, with the National Maritime Museum situated in the former buildings of the Royal Hospital School.

Greenwich became the site of the royal Palace of Placentia, in the 15th century. This was the birthplace of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. Marking the Diamond Jubilee of the late Elizabeth II, it was decided the London Borough of Greenwich was to become the fourth to have Royal Borough status. The network of transport routes throughout Greenwich is excellent, and because many drivers mainly use public transport in the area, we have helped drivers to increase their confidence due to not driving regularly. We also carry out van training for the many delivery companies in and around Greenwich.

During an advanced driver session, we typically look at the following:

* Observation and awareness of the driving environment
* Car control (looking at gears, steering, use of signals)
* Becoming a more skilful driver on all types of roads
* Developing an improved attitude towards motoring
* Motoring law
* Coping and defusing with road rage
* Manoeuvres and driving in restricted areas
* Becoming more speed aware
* Driving in busy urban environments
* Learning how to anticipate the actions of other road users
* Learning how to save fuel with economical driving
* Learning to see and not just look
* Coping with bad weather
* Learning why skids happen and how to best control a skid

Once the training is complete, we will send you a PDF report with many things assessed, such as confidence, forward planning, attitude, vehicle control, etc. This report is beneficial as it’s completely bespoke to the driver and provides valuable tips and insights for future safer driving. Each report is thoroughly verified and documented – proof you’ve had driver training with a DVSA-registered professional.

Key learning points of our driver training:

* Demonstrate your intention to become a safer, improved driver
* Address any issues which could be impacting you as a driver
* Become a safer, more skilful driver
* Finally, deal with and address issues which may have been holding you back

Training is a little different for commercial clients – the end client, the person receiving the training, is often not the person who decides to do the training.

While we help the driver to improve, from a commercial perspective, your business will benefit from:

* Demonstrating your businesses Duty of Care
* Lower fuel costs
* Providing the opportunity for an employee to develop
* Potentially lower your fleet insurance costs
* Showing you care

East Greenwich, gateway to the Blackwall Tunnel and Greenwich, is bordered by Deptford Creek and to the west, Deptford, Westcombe Park to the east, the Thames to the north, and Blackheath to the south. Since 2011, we have helped many private and business clients in Greenwich, including nearby locations such as Deptford, Kidbrooke, Lewisham, New Cross, Plumstead and Shooters Hill. The way our courses are run is that the tutor, who will be a highly qualified and experienced DVSA Registered ADI, will come to your address, home, or office, and you can use your own car, van, or campervan for the training.

Half or Full Day?

The half-day is ideal for those with many drivers who want to take advantage of the time and cost savings associated. The full day is perfect for drivers who wish to experience an intensive advanced driving course and want to iron out any bad habits.

We tend to find many clients opt for the full-day session – and book one driver in the morning and one in the afternoon – there is no additional charge for this, and it works really well.

When we train drivers, we look at building the course around their specific needs. We initially let them drive for a short period. Then, after a friendly debrief, we introduce several advanced driving techniques such as forward planning, car control, advanced observation, and much more.

The central part of the course is designed to improve the driver – and we find the best approach here is to work on their specific driving style and requirements and adjust the training to fit their needs.

Road Safety Risks and Information – Greenwich

Greenwich is a borough of London set on the banks of the River Thames and is primarily served by the A206 and the A104 Blackwall Tunnel Approach, which carries a very high amount of traffic daily across the river. There are high accident statistics recorded across the whole borough, but the worst affected areas are along the A206.

Travelling into Greenwich, Nelson Road, the A206 joins the A200 east of Deptford Creek at the 3-way traffic light system, and several collision sites are noted here. Further along Nelson Road, the accident rates continue, especially near road crossings, with the meeting of Park Row being hazardous, with severe and sometimes fatal accidents occurring. Other areas to pay extra attention to are the meetings of Greenwich Park Street and Lassell Street. This is a hectic and congested road through residential and commercial areas. As Nelson Road merges into Trafalgar Road, the collision statistics remain high as the traffic flow toward the Blackwall Tunnel from the west reaches its peak, and congestion and road closures due to accidents are a regular occurrence. The A104 joins the Blackwall Tunnel, and this can be reached by the Woolwich Road and Horn Lane Junctions of the A206, the lead up to these Junctions is littered with numerous accidents which may have occurred due to drivers not being familiar with the area or being caught up in accidents, not of their making. So it is essential that you pay attention to the actions of other drivers around you, not just your directions. Continuing along the A206, Woolwich Road, the traffic toward the Blackwall Tunnel flows from the east, and the traffic is just as heavy. The junctions of Victoria Way and Anchor and Hope Lane are the worst affected.

The A104, Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach is a multilane bustling carriageway that carries considerable traffic between the A2 and the A13 on either side of the River Thames. The majority of collisions occur on or near the slip roads, joining the carriageways to the Blackwall Tunnel approach. Numerous accidents are found on the Blackwall Lane and Bugsby’s Way intersections that link into and out of the tunnel. The collision statistics found here are much higher than average, which is unsurprising due to the increased traffic. There is also a worrying amount of collisions inside the tunnel itself that can lead to lane closures and a complete tunnel shutdown, which can cause traffic in the capital to slow down rather quickly.

If you have any specific roads you travel on in Greenwich and you’re keen to discover what parts are at higher risk in terms of collisions, don’t hesitate to contact us.
