Location Overview – Worcestershire is a sprawling county in the West Midlands. It borders Herefordshire to the west, Shropshire to the northwest and West Midlands to the northeast, Warwickshire to the east with Gloucestershire to the south. The west border with Herefordshire includes a stretch along the Malvern Hills, and at the southern borders with Gloucestershire, Worcestershire meets the northern edge of the Cotswolds.

The M5 motorway runs the length of Worcestershire from Devon to Birmingham, and the A44, A46, A422 and A449 roads crisscross the county from east to west. The county town is Worcester itself, but other major settlements are Kidderminster, Bromsgrove, and Redditch. There are also several market towns: Malvern, Bewdley, Evesham, Droitwich Spa, Pershore, Tenbury Wells, Stourport-on-Severn, and Upton-upon-Severn. Since 2011, we have been delivering an excellent standard of advanced driver training in and around Worcestershire for business and private drivers.

During a session, we typically look at the following:

* Understanding observational elements of driving (seeing) and building these into your driving plan
* Developing a much-improved attitude towards driving
* How to become a more skilled driver on all road types
* Car control (looking at gears, steering, and use of signals)
* Understand your own limitations and at-risk factors – most of which you won’t be aware of
* Coping and defusing with road rage
* Driving in busy urban environments
* Learn how you and other drivers think when behind the wheel
* Learning how to anticipate the actions of other road users better
* The system of car control – IPSGA
* Undoing years of ingrained bad habits
* Manoeuvres and driving in restricted areas
* Coping with bad weather
* Learning why skids can happen and how to control skids
* Learning to see and not just look when driving

Once the training is complete, your PDF report is sent to you with several things assessed, such as confidence, forward planning, attitude, vehicle control, and more. This report is beneficial as it’s completely bespoke to the driver and provides valuable tips and insights for future safer driving. Each report is thoroughly verified and documented – proof you’ve had driver training with a DVSA-registered professional.

Since 2011 Drivers Domain UK has delivered an impressive level of advanced driver training; we have many satisfied customers, businesses and private in the Worcestershire area. The network of roads and motorways are ideal for taking extra training; whether you drive a car or a van, we will come to you, and you can use your own vehicle. Our tutors are all highly skilled with excellent local road knowledge. The junction of the M5 and the A38/A491 is an ideal spot for helping with confidence on larger urban roads, whereas the beautiful winding B roads help with rural driving. All our courses are designed around the individual driver, and we find that all drivers are unique in their needs. We work to improve your current driving style and ensure that you are as safe as possible on the road. We have trained clients in Worcester, Bromsgrove, Droitwich, Evesham, and Tewkesbury with fabulous results.

Whether you are a private client or a business customer, we can build a course based on your specific needs and requirements anywhere in the UK.

Our courses do vary in structure, although we have several courses based on duration:

3.5hr session

7hr session (which can be split between two drivers)

2 x 3.5hr sessions

3 x 3.5hr sessions – We also have longer courses if needed.

The 7hr session, as mentioned above, can be split between two drivers, which is time and cost-efficient. One driver will be trained in the morning, usually 09:00 to 12:30, and then the second in the afternoon, usually 13:00 to 16:30. We can be very flexible on start times and start earlier than 9 am if needed. Each driver has 3.5hr on-road training.

Longer Duration Courses:

Our bespoke 3,4 and 5 x 3.5hr sessions are suited to those with specific driving issues. These issues include driving anxiety, motorway confidence, a fear of driving in new areas, post-RTC confidence or those that have not driven in a long time. These longer courses are mostly booked by private individuals, although they are also open to our business customers. Those that commit to these longer-duration courses see change happen over the weeks as they build confidence and address the specific issues they may be facing.

Road Safety Risks and Information – Worcestershire

The M5 is the main motorway running through Worcestershire, apart from two small links of the M50 between The Forest of Dean and Tewkesbury and the M42 at Catshill to join the M40. Several fast A road routes cross the county as it is centred between Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, The Cotswolds and The Midlands, and they are very busy with numerous accident hotspots littered across all routes.

The M5 has many serious accidents and a few fatal along the length running through Worcestershire, but the worse area is around junctions 7 and 8 leading into Worcester. The challenging junction of the meeting of the M42 at Catshill has seen many accidents, thankfully not as severe as other parts of the motorway but enough for drivers to take precautions at this intersection, as other drivers may need clarification with the road layout. The A44 from South Wales through to Oxford is pretty hazardous in many areas as it crosses Worcestershire, especially between Bromyard and Worcester, where the road is very fast and winding and quite rural in parts. From Worcester to Offenham, the A44 continues to have similar collision rates. The A46 brushes the eastern edge of the Worcestershire border and is a very busy and fast route, and is littered with crash sites. Between Beckford and Hinton Cross, there are several fatal accident sites,

The A448 between Kidderminster, through Bromsgrove and into Redditch has many crash sites, especially around the traffic light junctions of Comberton Road leading from Kidderminster and A38 intersection and the Bromsgrove Highway. Collisions here are always more probable during rush hours when drivers rush to their destinations. The A38 travels from the southwest of the UK through Nottingham and has crash sites along its route, but the hot spots through Worcestershire are the challenging junction where it meets the M5 at Whychbold and Redditch Road. The A449 from Worcester to Kidderminster is another very fast road that shows severe and sometimes fatal collision sites, with many along the dual carriageway ring road from the M5 junction just above Worcester. Most of the accidents occur near minor roads crossing fast routes, such as Holt Fleet Road, A4133, and Stourport Lane, A4025.

Rural Worcestershire is very picturesque, with many pretty villages linked by minor rural roads and lanes, which at certain times of the year can be hazardous with flooding or tree falls. Areas such as Malvern and Upton on Severn are often problematic during the winter months, with several severe collision sites noted in the area. These are also very popular tourist areas in the summer, and drivers unfamiliar with the regions may be involved in accidents due to not knowing the roads well.

These are only a very broad outline of collision sites in Worcestershire. Please contact us if you have any specific roads you travel on in the area and are keen to discover what parts are at higher risk of collisions. We offer a free-of-charge service to anyone who is interested.
