There are a number of very specialist areas of Millbrook Proving Ground. Doing Millbrook Pro we cover the areas, which are designed for high-performance driving and testing.

Mile Straight – As the name suggests, this is a one-mile straight where you can test the acceleration and also braking capabilities of your car. This is perfect if you want to see how your car behaves under extreme braking, from anything from 50 to 100mph. During training, you will be able to master how you should apply brakes at high speed for maximum impact.

This is very useful if you participate in high-speed track driving or simply just wish to feel how your car behaves in such circumstances.

Dynamic and Steering Pad – You will have exclusive use on these pads with us. No other car will be allowed on when you’re training. Both these pads are designed for developing car control. The steering pad is a concrete, slightly coarse surface, while the dynamic pad, found at the end of the Mile Straight, is tarmac, so resembling more of a ‘real world’ road surface. While on these pads (essentially skidpans), you can drive them dry (weather dependent!) or wet. With the use of a sprinkler at your disposal, you can recreate incredibly wet, treacherous conditions.

During your time on these pads, you can experience your car with the traction control on, partly on (if you have the option) and off. You can experience at what point your car “gives way” and what it feels like when it does – and most importantly, what it feels like just before things go wrong!

High-Speed Circuit – You can get to experience 100mph+ speeds in your car as you drive the high-speed circuit. It looks like a cycling velodrome as you approach it, with the outside track (which has a minimum speed of 90mph) banked up at a very steep angle. The faster you go, the more your car will push itself down to the surface. While you can’t do anything as extreme as what you would do on the steering pads, you can certainly enjoy high-speed driving and experience what it’s like to drive on one of the most famous high-speed bowls in the world.

Handling Circuit – This is a great place to get to grips with car control with plenty of corners. It’s ideal if you want to alter settings on your car, drive for a bit, come back, adjust and go back out. There are convenient parking areas immediately off this circuit, so you can pull in and go back out with minimal disruption. The handing circuit is just under one mile.

ABS/TCS area – This area is for testing ABS as the name suggests. While it’s not always needed during training, it’s open as an option if you wish.

Alpine Circuit – Many driving scenes in films have been created here. In James Bond, Casino Royale (2006), the scene of James Bond flipping his Aston Martin DBS was filmed here. You can still see the repairs they had to make to the tarmac! This is a fast, very challenging track with sharp corners, dips, cambers and crests. It’s designed to recreate an alpine pass, but as it’s one way, you can drive any side of the road, which is great when taking the racing line! Other vehicles can also use the circuit when you’re on it, so you need to be mindful of this – the same goes for the Handling Circuit.
