Location Overview – Worcester is a cathedral city and the main county town in Worcestershire. It is 30 miles southwest of Birmingham, 101 miles northwest of London, 27 miles north of Gloucester and 23 miles northeast of Hereford. The River Severn borders the city centre’s western side, and most of Worcester is on the eastern side, including the Saxons Lode area. However, St John’s, Henwick, Lower Wick, and Dines Green are on the western bank of the river. During the 50s and 60s, large areas of medieval Worcester were demolished and rebuilt. However, there is still a significant area of medieval Worcester; glorious examples can still be seen along the City Walls Road, Friar Street and New Street. Worcester is a major retail centre, with several covered shopping centres housing chain stores and many independent shops and restaurants, particularly on Friar Street and New Street. Here is a very brief overview of some routes we could cover on a session. The M5 Motorway runs immediately to Worcester’s east, accessed by junctions 6 and 7, ideal for motorway training. It links Worcester to many parts of the country, including London, only 118 miles away on the A44 via the Cotswolds and M40. The main roads running through the city, ideal for urban training, include the A449 and the A44. The A38 trunk road runs south towards Bristol and northeast to Birmingham. The A4103 goes southwest to Hereford.

Our tailored 3, 4 and 5 x 3.5-hour sessions are suited, for those that identify as having specific issues with their driving, such as driving anxiety, significant driving issues on particular roads, or who have not driven for a very long time. These longer courses are booked mainly by private individuals, although they are also open to our business clients.
These longer-duration courses are great for those facing particular (often very specific) issues, as it can take time to build up your skill and confidence. The time between each session will also be valuable as it allows you to reflect, absorb and practise what has been covered.

Road Safety Risks and Information – Worcester
Worcester, a bustling city located on the edge of the M5 between Gloucestershire and Birmingham, sees a significant influx of commuters daily. The city is a hub of activity, served by the A41, which brings a lot of traffic from Wales, and the A44 connects the city to Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds. This traffic flow and the city’s compact size contribute to Worcester’s relatively high accident statistics.
Worcester has quite high accident statistics for a relatively small city, and there are several hot spots for drivers to be aware of when travelling in the area. Junction 7 of the M5 links the A44, Whittington Road, and London Road, which continues into the city centre. This busy route travels through a residential area and is relatively narrow in places. Many houses have drives that open onto the road, so it is vital for all of us to make significant, precise observations when routes like these are being used, especially during rush hours. Speed limits are low in residential areas, but numerous accidents are far more severe than motorway collisions, as many will involve pedestrians and cyclists. Being aware of side roads and drives in areas such as these is very important. As the A44 continues, it meets the A38 Bath Road, and there are several accident sites seen here in the last few years. City Walls Road then skirts the west of Worcester city centre, and there are many collisions noted, especially at the Sansome Street traffic lights.
Lowesmoor and Lowesmoor Terrace to the west of the city is a very hazardous route with many collision sites noted, especially at the junction of Pheasant Street and Lowesmoor Warfe. Another dangerous area is the A38, The Tything; this is a one-way system with drivers travelling in and out of the city centre, with some severe and even fatal accidents occurring near the Castle Street junction. Busy inner-city driving requires a lot of patience, good observations, and, of course, making sure that other drivers can see your intentions by using clear indications.
