Location Overview – Dorchester is a vibrant town on the south coast. Since 2011, we have provided a range of bespoke driving courses for both private and company clients; we don’t provide courses in just Dorchester either; we can provide a range of courses in Dorset and around the UK.

As regards routes, we take on a driving course; it depends very much on your location in Dorchester and the type of training you want. Usually, however, we use the A35 around the outskirts, sometimes west onto the A27, or if we are heading north, we pick up the A354 towards Blandford. The A354 is great for teaching a number of advanced driving techniques as it’s a relatively fast-flowing, busy rural road – as are many other roads in and around Dorchester.

If you require urban driver training – which often makes up a proportion of a general advanced driving course, we will head towards Poundbury. For manoeuvres, the Groove Trading Estate (plus also other locations) provides a number of areas for reversing and parking if needed.

We offer a range of bespoke courses, which include:

* General advanced and defensive courses
* Motorway training
* Performance training
* UK Familiarisation
* Confidence training
* Younger drivers
* Pre-court assessments

Course Content:

All courses are built around the needs and requirements of the individual driver, but below are a number of things we look at:

* The system of car control – IPSGA
* Working towards an expert level of forward planning and observation
* Understanding observational elements of driving (seeing) and building these into your driving plan
* Manoeuvres and reversing (This is often requested in confidence training)
* How to become a safe driver on urban and rural roads and motorways
* Understand your own limitations and at-risk factors – most of which you won’t be aware of
* Undoing years of ingrained bad habits
* Learning to manage speed and become more speed-aware
* How to deal with complex and busy traffic environments
* How to understand other drivers and what they may do next
* Learn how you and other drivers think when behind the wheel

You will be issued a driving report after each session – sent by email. This report is fully documented with us and has a unique verification number attached – proof you’ve had training with a qualified professional. In your report, you will be able to see how you improved and in what areas, along with some useful tips to make sure you keep up your improved standard of driving.

There are a number of benefits of taking driver training with Drivers Domain UK:

* Full UK coverage
* Bespoke training based on a driver’s specific needs
* Handpicked tutors
* Personal account manager
* All training is on-road based
* Detailed reporting for each driver – with notes from the tutor who provided the training and course verification on each report
* We come to you for the training – not the other way round
* 7hr and 3.5hr options

Road Safety Risks and Information – Dorchester

Dorchester is situated near the south coast between Poole and Bridport and is served by the A35 and the A37. These are very busy routes, especially during the summer, with high collision statistics.

The A35 circles the south of Dorchester, and the stretch of road from the Stinsford Roundabout linking the B3150 to the Stadium Roundabout linking the A354 has a very high number of collisions noted. Due to the near coastal location, many of these may have involved drivers unfamiliar with the area, and many a holiday has been ruined because of this. It is imperative to understand your directions when travelling to new places and also to be aware that other drivers may be struggling with theirs. Taking a few extra seconds to observe the traffic around you can be lifesaving, as drivers unfamiliar with the area can often make sudden panic moves if they suddenly realise they may be missing a junction or roundabout exit. The A35 carries a high volume of traffic as it is the main route across the south coast from Bournemouth through to the meeting of the A30 in Devon. The A37 brings traffic from Somerset into Dorchester and beyond and is also high with accident statistics; the worst affected area here is the stretch of road between Weirs Roundabout and the Monkeys Jump Roundabout linking the A35 and the Bridport Road. Once again, many of these collisions involve transient drivers.

The Bridport Road, B3130, continues into the centre of Dorchester, where numerous accident sites are noted. These tend to occur near road crossings, traffic lights, and roundabouts. Although many of these accidents are less severe due to lower speeds, they can lead to road closures and congestion, as well as being very costly and upsetting for all involved. The meeting of Damers Road and the Top O Town roundabout are just a few areas of concern that drivers need to be aware of.

These are only a very broad outline of collision sites in Dorchester. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any specific roads you travel on in the area and are keen to discover what parts are at higher risk of collisions. We offer a free-of-charge service to anyone who is interested.
