Location Overview: Glastonbury is a historic town located in Somerset, known for its rich cultural and spiritual heritage. It is famous for the iconic Glastonbury Tor, a hilltop that offers stunning views and is steeped in myths and legends, including its connections to King Arthur and the Holy Grail.

The town is also home to the ancient Glastonbury Abbey, which was once one of the most important religious sites in medieval Britain.

Glastonbury has a vibrant alternative community and is often associated with New Age spirituality, attracting visitors seeking peace, healing, and inspiration. With its quirky shops, cafes, and festivals, Glastonbury offers a unique blend of history, culture, and modern bohemian charm. We have offered a range of business and private clients driving courses in Glastonbury over the years.

Duration Overview – What’s Ideal For You?

Our courses are split into 3.5-hour sessions. While some opt for 7-hour sessions, they can be hard for some drivers who are perhaps not used to driving for such a long time.

One of the most popular session formats is the 2 x 3.5hr sessions, especially for private clients, as it allows time in between each session to absorb what has been covered.

We also offer 3,4, and 5 x 3.5hr sessions. These tend to be suited to those who have very specific confidence issues or who have not driven in a long time.

If you are unsure what course is best, you can opt for one or two 3.5hr sessions and then book more on a pro-rata rate if needed.

Our driver training covers a wide range of roads, some of which can include:

  1. High Street – The central thoroughfare through the town, lined with shops, cafes, and historic buildings.
  2. Chilkwell Street – A road leading to the south of the town, passing near the famous Glastonbury Tor.
  3. Street Road – This road connects Glastonbury to the nearby town of Street.
  4. Northload Street – A key road leading north out of the town, towards the A39.
  5. Wearyall Hill – A road leading up to the area near the famous Wearyall Hill, associated with the legend of King Arthur.

These roads are essential for navigating through the town and its surrounding areas.

Road Safety – Risks and Hazards in Glastonbury

While Glastonbury itself is not generally known for having excessively dangerous roads, there are some areas where caution is advised:

  1. Chilkwell Street – This road can be narrow and winding, particularly near the base of Glastonbury Tor, where visibility can be limited and traffic may move more slowly. The steep inclines can also be challenging in poor weather conditions.
  2. Wearyall Hill – A narrow and winding road leading to Wearyall Hill can be tricky, especially during bad weather, with its steep gradient and limited space for passing vehicles.
  3. Street Road (A39) – As this is a main road linking Glastonbury to Street, it can experience high traffic volumes, and driving too fast or without due care can be hazardous, particularly near junctions.
  4. Northload Street – While not particularly dangerous, this road can become congested, especially during busy times or events, making it difficult to navigate safely.

As with any rural area, caution should be taken on any narrow, winding, or hilly roads, especially in wet or icy conditions. Always follow local traffic guidelines for safety.
