Motherwell is a very practical location for bespoke driver training, with excellent access to the wider Central Belt of Scotland. Its position close to the M74, M8, A725 and A8 makes it convenient for drivers travelling from Glasgow, Hamilton, East Kilbride, Coatbridge and surrounding areas.
The local road network offers a strong mix of driving environments, including busy urban routes, roundabouts, residential streets, dual carriageways and motorway driving. Within a relatively short distance, drivers can also reach quieter roads and more rural sections, allowing training to be adapted to different experience levels and business needs.

More About Our Driving Course Content
Certain principles contribute to safer, more skilful driving, regardless of a person’s age or experience. The key difference is how those principles are applied to each individual driver.
All of our courses are bespoke, but some of the main areas we typically cover include:
Key Driving Skills
- Improving anticipation and forward-planning skills
- Practising manoeuvres, including parking, with greater confidence and accuracy
- Developing better speed awareness, judgement and planning
- Learning to anticipate the actions of other drivers and road users
Hazard Awareness and Management
- Developing safer driving techniques for motorways, rural roads and urban routes
- Building confidence when driving in poor or challenging weather conditions
- Recognising different types of skids and understanding how to manage them safely
Driver Behaviour and Awareness
- Improving driver attitude, mindset and decision-making
- Understanding the causes of road rage and learning how to manage difficult situations
- Increasing knowledge of road rules, regulations and safe-driving responsibilities
Environmental and Economic Driving
- Developing smoother, more fuel-efficient driving habits that can help reduce fuel costs, emissions and unnecessary wear and tear on the vehicle
The exact balance of each session will depend on the driver. Some areas may require considerable attention, while others may only need a brief review. That flexibility is at the heart of our personalised approach.

Course Durations
Our UK-wide driving courses are available for both car and van drivers, with a range of duration options to suit different needs, experience levels and learning styles.
3.5 Hours – Our shortest and most cost-effective option. This works particularly well for businesses training two or more drivers, as a full training day can be divided between two people. It can also suit private clients who only require a focused half-day session.
2 x 3.5 Hours – Ideal for drivers who may find a full day too intensive or who would benefit from time between sessions to absorb and practise what they have learned. We will often recommend specific areas to work on between sessions, helping reinforce the training before the second session. This format is particularly popular with private clients and drivers who prefer a more gradual approach.
7 Hours – Full Day – A full-day course is a cost-effective option for drivers who want to complete their training in one day. It can be particularly suitable for employees who have been asked to undertake driver training by their company or for individuals with limited availability. For business clients, the day can also be divided into two 3.5-hour sessions, allowing us to train one driver in the morning and another in the afternoon.
Extended Courses – 3, 4 or 5 x 3.5 Hours – Our longer programmes are designed for drivers who need more comprehensive support. This may include those returning to driving after a long break, drivers experiencing significant anxiety or those dealing with more complex or long-standing driving difficulties. Sessions can be spread over several weeks, allowing skills and confidence to develop gradually.

Road Safety Facts – Motherwell
Motherwell has a varied road network that is particularly useful for advanced and defensive driver training. North Lanarkshire Council identifies motorways and A-roads as the locations where most reported collisions occur across the authority, making speed management, observation, and forward planning especially important.
- A721 Bellshill Road – has a documented history of speeding and injury collisions. Safety-camera enforcement produced a substantial reduction in vehicle speeds and a 56% reduction in injury collisions, demonstrating the importance of choosing appropriate speeds.
- A723 Merry Street / Hamilton Road – a major route through Motherwell with busy junctions, pedestrian activity and changing traffic conditions. The Merry Street/Menteith Road roundabout is regarded as a key town-centre junction.
- A721 Craigneuk Street – includes busy roundabouts and significant traffic movements, making lane selection, observation and junction planning particularly important.
- Airbles Road / Windmillhill Street – a busy signal-controlled area where drivers need good anticipation, positioning and awareness of vulnerable road users.
- A725 and M74 approaches – higher-speed roads ideal for developing safe following distances, joining and leaving traffic, lane discipline and motorway planning.
- Motherwell town centre – pedestrians, buses, cyclists, parked vehicles and frequent junctions require strong observation and effective hazard anticipation.
These conditions make Motherwell particularly suitable for training around speed awareness, observation, space management, junction planning and safer decision-making.
