Oldham is a strong location for bespoke driver training because it sits within Greater Manchester and offers easy access to a wide variety of road types within a relatively compact area. Its proximity to Manchester, Rochdale, Ashton-under-Lyne, and the M60/M62 motorway network makes it convenient for local drivers and employees travelling from across the North West.
For practical training, Oldham offers an excellent mix of busy urban roads, residential streets, roundabouts, dual carriageways, and routes that quickly lead into more rural, hilly terrain towards Saddleworth and the Pennines. This variety allows a training session to be tailored around the individual driver’s real-world needs.

More About Our Driving Course Content
Certain principles contribute to safer, more skilful driving, regardless of a person’s age or experience. The key difference is how those principles are applied to each individual driver.
All of our courses are bespoke, but some of the main areas we typically cover include:
Key Driving Skills
- Improving anticipation and forward-planning skills
- Practising manoeuvres, including parking, with greater confidence and accuracy
- Developing better speed awareness, judgement and planning
- Learning to anticipate the actions of other drivers and road users
Hazard Awareness and Management
- Developing safer driving techniques for motorways, rural roads and urban routes
- Building confidence when driving in poor or challenging weather conditions
- Recognising different types of skids and understanding how to manage them safely
Driver Behaviour and Awareness
- Improving driver attitude, mindset and decision-making
- Understanding the causes of road rage and learning how to manage difficult situations
- Increasing knowledge of road rules, regulations and safe-driving responsibilities
Environmental and Economic Driving
- Developing smoother, more fuel-efficient driving habits that can help reduce fuel costs, emissions and unnecessary wear and tear on the vehicle
The exact balance of each session will depend on the driver. Some areas may require considerable attention, while others may only need a brief review. That flexibility is at the heart of our personalised approach.

Our Flexible Course Options:
Course Duration
Our UK-wide driving courses are available for both car and van drivers, with a range of duration options to suit different needs, experience levels and learning styles.
3.5 Hours – Our shortest and most cost-effective option. This works particularly well for businesses training two or more drivers, as a full training day can be divided between two people. It can also suit private clients who only require a focused half-day session.
2 x 3.5 Hours – Ideal for drivers who may find a full day too intensive or who would benefit from time between sessions to absorb and practise what they have learned. We will often recommend specific areas to work on between sessions, helping reinforce the training before the second session. This format is particularly popular with private clients and drivers who prefer a more gradual approach.
7 Hours – Full Day – A full-day course is a cost-effective option for drivers who want to complete their training in one day. It can be particularly suitable for employees who have been asked to undertake driver training by their company or for individuals with limited availability. For business clients, the day can also be divided into two 3.5-hour sessions, allowing us to train one driver in the morning and another in the afternoon.
Extended Courses – 3, 4 or 5 x 3.5 Hours – Our longer programmes are designed for drivers who need more comprehensive support. This may include those returning to driving after a long break, drivers experiencing significant anxiety or those dealing with more complex or long-standing driving difficulties. Sessions can be spread over several weeks, allowing skills and confidence to develop gradually.

Key Roads and Collision Considerations – Oldham
Oldham has a particularly varied road network, which makes it useful for bespoke advanced and defensive driver training. Key strategic routes include the M60, A62, A627, A663, A671 and A669, all of which form part of the borough’s main road network.
The A62 is especially useful for training because it runs through Oldham and Failsworth and includes busy urban sections, junctions and changing traffic conditions. The A627/Oldham Way and A663 Broadway provide opportunities to coach lane discipline, higher-speed observation, merging and forward planning. The A669 Lees Road/Middleton Road and A671 Rochdale Road are also important local corridors linking residential and commercial areas.
Oldham Council has reported a long-term reduction in road collisions, from more than 900 a year to around 300 over a 20-year period. However, it has also identified a number of collision hotspots, including St Mary’s Way, A669 Middleton Road, A669 Lees Road, A62 Oldham Road in Failsworth, and the A663/A671 junction in Royton.
For driver training, these routes are valuable for developing speed awareness, junction planning, observation, lane positioning, hazard anticipation and decision-making in realistic conditions.
