During our advanced driving courses, we make sure to cover as many road types as possible to provide a comprehensive experience. While the only motorway in East Yorkshire is the M62, we use it for key motorway training sessions, often heading towards Leeds or Scunthorpe via the M180. This helps drivers gain confidence on high-speed roads, which is crucial for their overall skill development.

For rural road training, East Yorkshire offers a wide range of A and B roads, perfect for introducing various advanced driving techniques. These roads provide the ideal setting for practicing vehicle control, handling diverse road conditions, and applying advanced strategies in a real-world environment.

Urban and town driving is another important aspect of our courses. We incorporate built-up areas into our training, where drivers can learn to manage their speed in lower limits (20 and 30mph zones), deal with pedestrians and vulnerable road users like cyclists, and refine their observation skills. The challenges of urban driving differ from those in rural settings, but both require a strong focus on observation, planning, and safe decision-making.

Our training is designed around the individual driver, ensuring that we help each participant improve according to their specific needs and abilities. Whether you’re navigating rural lanes or busy city streets, we aim to help you become a more confident, capable, and aware driver.

Quick Links – we also cover local areas, including:
West Yorkshire

Road Safety Risks and Information – East Yorkshire

The main motorway into East Yorkshire is the M62 from Leeds, which merges with the M63 into Hull. This is a particularly heavy traffic route and has seen numerous accidents, especially at junction 37 at Howden Dyke, where there is a challenging link road to Boothferry Road. The accident rate is exceptionally high for such a small stretch of road. Junction 35, where the M62 links to the M18 to Doncaster, is another high-risk area. Other fast roads, such as the A1079 from York, through Market Weighton and into Beverley, and the A614, which links Hebden Dyke to Bridlington, have plenty of accident hotspots along all routes. The stretch of road on the A614 between Market Weighton and Driffield is a very challenging area and has seen, sadly, too many fatalities, so being aware of especially dangerous routes is beneficial for any unfamiliar journey. Another perilous route is the A166 between Stamford Bridge and Fridaythorpe. Accidents on fast A roads are often severe as these routes are quite rural with minimal street lighting and, by their very nature, are challenging to drive, so a good understanding of the roads you travel can help you plan your journey with road risks considered, which is vital if you are using such routes regularly.

Hull is the largest city in East Yorkshire and is a thriving port town full of attractions bringing visitors along the river Humber. The A63 follows the river, and unfortunately, many serious accidents have been seen from the Humber Bridge right into the inner-city ring road. The traffic light multi-lane junction on the edge of Ferrisway is also notorious for collisions. The A15 across the Humber Bridge route into Barton on Humber is statistically a very high-risk area. The A165 travelling into Bridlington shows many crash sites in and around the town centres. There are also many accident sites along the coastal road of South Marine Drive; all along this road are parking spaces for the seafront, which could be a significant factor, especially on very sunny days.

All minor roads between York and the coast are very well travelled with farming communities, locals,  and tourists, but some of the most serious accidents have been seen in very beautiful settings, such as the B1246 from Pocklington and the B1238 Hull Road to Aldborough.

We offer a free-of-charge service to anyone who is interested in crash statistics when planning a route. These are only a very brief outline of collision sites in the county of East Yorkshire. Please get in touch if you would like to find out more.
