Who can take Advanced Driver training?
There are over 45 million car drivers in the UK, but only a small percentage of these have taken an advanced driving test. A higher number may have taken some form of further advanced and defensive training in the form of a Pass Plus course or a company training course if driving for work purposes. Generally speaking, most drivers will never consider taking any further driving tuition after passing their driving test unless an issue should arise, such as an accident which may have knocked confidence, or for those who may be facing a court appearance due to speeding or careless driving and need to show the courts that they are remorseful and have rectified their poor driving habits.
Taking driving lessons and passing your driving test is just the start of your motoring career; it is not the end goal. Driving does not have an end goal, you should be constantly learning every day, on every road and every situation you may find yourself. After a few years, most drivers would not pass the L driving test if they were to retake it. Bad habits only take a few days to start creeping in, especially when driving alone without an instructor. This is much worse for younger male drivers, who tend to show off in front of friends. We have all seen the heartbreaking news stories of young drivers killed in accidents only weeks after passing the driving test. Many parents are now looking to encourage newly qualified drivers to take further advanced training, which is very easy, with tutors across the UK and door-to-door services.
Advanced driver training is for anyone who has passed the practical driving test. It would be an incentive if insurance companies considered premium discounts for training courses but that still looks to be a way off. Insurance premiums should be cheaper if you undertake some advanced driver training because the chances are you will be a much better driver and less likely to make any claims, which should help in the long run.
Taking advanced driver training is very easy to do, and it can make a huge difference in your overall driving confidence, whether you have been driving for many years and feel that your ability is slipping or are a new driver and want to make sure you are fully in control of your vehicle and not picking up poor habits.
Advanced driver training is very different from the driving lessons taken when learning to pass the driving test. The tutors are highly skilled, and the courses are tailored to the needs of the individual. Many driving systems will be introduced that are not part of the driving test, such as the ‘limit point’ for country roads and other car control systems used by Police and Emergency services drivers.
Here at Drivers Domain UK, we deliver many advanced driver training courses each year, and every client has a different need. Below are some of the main reasons we are asked to provide advanced training courses.
Confidence
Many drivers have lost confidence over the years. Some can pinpoint an issue, but many can’t. Some say that once children were being transported, that added to a lack of confidence, and the COVID lockdowns, several years ago now, created many issues for drivers not being on the road for longer than usual.
Road Traffic Accidents
Many drivers can jump back behind the wheel straight after an accident but still retain lingering issues that can resurface later, and some drivers need some help to get back to driving straight away.
New Drivers
Parents are purchasing courses for their newly qualified children to give them that extra safety when driving. The things they will learn are often things drivers with 30+ years of experience won’t know.
Mature drivers
As drivers reach their mid to late 70s, they are taking courses to reassure themselves and family members that they are still driving safely and to the best of their abilities and are up to date with all the latest rules and regulations of the road.
High Mileage drivers
Drivers who rack up many miles a year tend to take a course to help with any issues they may be facing, as well as help with new cars they may purchase, defensive driving, fuel and wear-and-tear costs, and more.
