Our grey fleet driver training courses are designed for staff who work for an employer but use their own car or van for company use. A grey fleet arrangement can have advantages for companies. However, there can also be problems associated with grey fleets, which are not apparent when dealing with just company cars and vans.
Incentivising drivers to use their own vehicles for business purposes can be beneficial, especially for smaller businesses, where business-related driving is few and far between. However, grey fleet drivers can also cover vast annual mileage.
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 states: ‘It shall be the duty of every employer to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work of all employees.’ The duty of care sits with the employer, regardless of the size or type of fleet.
With this act in mind, businesses that use a fleet of vehicles, whether company vehicles or a grey fleet, need to be aware of their duties. This is why we offer a grey fleet driver training course.
Our Grey Fleet Driver Training Course:
Our grey fleet driver training course is open to anyone who drives their own vehicle as part of their job. Whether they use their own vehicle on the odd occasion or cover 50,000+ miles a year for business, we can help.
During our grey fleet driver training, we typically look at:
* The specific driving the employee does when driving their own vehicle for work
* The points they like and perhaps dislike when driving
* How often they use their vehicle for business use
* Forward planning and observation
* Speed awareness and the consequences of points on licence and the risks of collisions when at work
* Advanced cornering techniques
* How to become a safer driver on all roads
* Car or van control (gears, steering, foot controls, signals)
* Car handling dynamics and techniques
* Rules of the road
* Dealing with road rage
* Commentary driving
* Reversing and manoeuvres
* Dealing with adverse weather
* Dealing with emergency situations
* Vehicle stability and control
* Motorway driving
* Town and urban defensive driving
* Skid control theory and learning what causes skids
* Eco-safe driving (effective use of speed, gears, planning)
* Anticipation – Learning to see and not just look
* Understanding other road users and their intentions
Our grey fleet driver training is very similar to the other driving courses we offer private clients and business drivers. However, there is an added focus on this training to cater for drivers who may not be day-in-day-out drivers. Some may have limited experience of driving, others may have issues with using busier roads and some, if they have never driven a company vehicle may have never received any form of driver training before.
Our courses are fully bespoke to you and your grey fleet drivers.
After the training, you will receive a detailed driving report, which scores each driver from Excellent to Poor in a wide range of driving elements, along with a unique road risk scoring for them. You will receive an individual PDF report for each grey fleet driver – proof that although they may not be driving a company vehicle, you have taken your duty of care to help assess and improve their driving.
