We offer a course called Mature Driver Assessment PLUS. This course is designed for mature drivers, typically aged 65+, who fall into the following categories:

1. A professional or loved one has requested that they take a course to assess their driving safety

2. They were involved in a collision and want to ensure they are safe to drive

3. They feel their confidence has been dwindling, and they need a boost

4. They feel they have developed several bad habits over the years that need to be addressed

5. They have been diagnosed with dementia and can still drive, but want professional insight into their abilities

6. They don’t have any specific concerns but want to take the time to improve their skills and enhance their safety.

We’ve named this course Mature Driver Assessment PLUS because, like other providers, we offer a mature driver assessment. However, the PLUS signifies our highly personalised training and coaching, tailored to each driver. This ensures that every participant gains something positive from the session, regardless of their ability.

The driver isn’t just being assessed; they also receive valuable tips, techniques, and advice to enhance their driving skills.

Our tutors:

All our tutors are DVSA-registered instructors specialising in driver training for full licence holders of all ages and experience levels. They are patient, supportive, and non-judgmental, ensuring every client is treated with the care, respect, and understanding they deserve.

On the day – What happens:

Your tutor will contact you in advance to introduce themselves and confirm all details for your upcoming session. They will then meet you at the agreed time and location. If you prefer, we can often begin the training at your home or a mutually convenient spot.

The session starts with a driving licence check, followed by an eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from around 20 metres away. Next, we’ll perform a quick safety check on your vehicle to ensure essentials like tyres and bulbs are in good working order and meet legal requirements.

After these initial steps, we’ll have a brief discussion to get to know you better before you begin driving as you normally would. This gives us an opportunity to assess your current driving ability.

We document the results on a custom training form, where we score various aspects of your driving, from observation and car control to speed awareness, confidence, and more. Once the drive is complete, we’ll have a follow-up conversation to provide you with feedback on your performance.

Based on the results of the initial session, we’ll tailor the rest of your training to suit your specific needs. Depending on what you’re looking to focus on, the course may cover a variety of topics, including:

* Forward planning and observation
* Speed awareness
* Advanced cornering techniques
* How to become a safer driver on all roads
* Rules of the road
* Commentary driving
* Reversing and manoeuvres
* Motorway driving
* Town and urban defensive driving
* Skid control theory and learning what causes skids
* Anticipation – Learning to see and not just look
* Understanding other road users and their intentions

When the course is complete, we will score you again in the key areas, so you will be able to see areas you’ve improved on and areas which may need more attention. There will also be written notes from the tutor. This report is sent by email 2 to 5 days after the course.
