We have a number of tutors who offer advanced driving courses in Northamptonshire for companies and private individuals. We can cover all areas of the county and have already provided courses in Northampton, Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough. We have a range of routes in Northamptonshire for our clients, designed to provide the very best driver training experience possible. We often use the M1 for motorway training, or sometimes the M6 if we are heading out of the county in a northwest direction, or the M40 if we are heading west.
In regards A roads, which often have specific features similar to more rural roads we often use the A4, A45, A508, plus many more. Rural road training is important as these types of roads are generally considered the most dangerous of all. The high speeds, close proximity to on-coming traffic, varying road surface and corner severity all add to the risk. Our advanced courses really helps a driver lower their risk on these roads.
Urban driver training is covered during our courses too, as this helps a driver to become more aware of vulnerable road users, which are common place in towns and cities, along with learning how to more effectively manage 20mph speed limits and dealing with varying traffic lanes. In Northampton for example we will often head into urban areas like Abington or Delapre, or in to the centre for urban training.

-Creating increased powers of anticipation and planning

Road Safety Risks and Information – Northamptonshire
Northamptonshire has the M1 motorway running through the centre of the county and is also surrounded by the M40 to the south, the M6 to the west, and the A1 to the east of the county. There are also many fast A road routes crossing Northamptonshire, and on all of the roads, there are accident sites that have seen many severe and, sadly, often fatal collisions.
The worse affected area of the M1 in Northamptonshire for accidents is the patch of motorway between the Newport Pagnell and the Northampton Junctions. The challenging junction of 15a, where the A43 and the A5123 intersect the M1, has seen several fatal and severe collisions involving multiple vehicles. This is similar to the next junction, 16, where the A45 and the A4500 join and cross the M1. These are bustling routes, especially during rush hours, and caution should always be taken when using them. Another area of concern is the meeting of the M1 and the M45 at junction 17. On routes that are part of a regular journey, drivers can easily slip into autopilot, and this is when most accidents happen, as incidents can occur in a second. Drivers need to be alert enough to react in time. Understanding what areas of your journey carry the most risk regarding accidents is vital. The A14 is another significant route across Northamptonshire, and there have been several nasty accidents seen along this road toward Kettering, especially at the intersection of the A5199 at Welford.
The A43 running from Corby to Kettering is a fast and dangerous route, especially during rush hours, with many severe accident sites noted; however, as it travels toward Northampton from Kettering, the collision rates drop, showing that speed calming in the area is working. The urban roads leading in and out of the centre of Northampton have many severe collisions, and the worst affected are the London Road and Bridge Street routes, linking to the A5123 and A508 ring roads. The traffic light junctions around Victoria Gardens are especially hazardous, the same as the Maire Fair Crossings A5095 and the A508.
Although Northamptonshire is a very busy county, it has many lovely rural locations, but with this comes some hazardous rural roads. The roads across Harrold, Odell and Carlton are especially perilous, especially during the summer months when tourism is high along very narrow obstructed lanes and in the winter when flooding, ice and wind can cause havoc. The roads around West Haddon are very similar, with the A428 linking many minor rural lanes to the picturesque villages of Winwick, Crick, Ravensthorpe, and Cold Ashby. It is always wise to check accident rates along unfamiliar routes if you want to help ensure road safety on all journeys.
This is only a tiny outline of collision sites in Northamptonshire. If you have any specific roads you travel on in the area and are keen to discover which parts are at higher risk of collisions, please contact us. We offer a free-of-charge service to anyone interested.
