Truro lies just six miles from the A30 trunk road, reachable via the A39 from Falmouth and Penryn. Cutting straight through the city, the A390 connects Redruth in the west with Liskeard in the east before merging onto the A38, which continues on to Plymouth, Exeter and the M5 motorway. As the southernmost city in the United Kingdom, Truro sits approximately 232 miles west-south-west of London, and Cornwall’s principal airport at Newquay is only 12 miles to the north.

Half or Full Day?

Our half-day option works best if you want to train several drivers back-to-back. It’s cheaper per head, and your business has less downtime. As a private client, a half-day is ideal if you need a short refresher.

A full day is more suited if you or a driver has specific issues, such as limited confidence, complaints about their driving (company drivers) or if you’re a private client and want more than a half-day training session but want to get the training done and dusted in one day.

We find many clients opt for the full-day session – and book one driver in the morning and one in the afternoon – there is no additional charge for this, and it works well for business clients.

Road Safety Risks and Information – Truro

Truro is Cornwall’s capital city, located in the Southwest between St Austell and Falmouth along the A390. It is a very busy city, especially during the summer when thousands of extra visitors arrive yearly.

The A390 links to the A39 at the Newquay Road traffic lights, then travels into the city centre via Tregolls Road. This route is laden with collision sites, some of which are very severe and, sadly, fatal at times.  Accidents occurring around Truro often involve drivers unfamiliar with the area, a factor that significantly increases the risk. It is crucial that you are aware of other drivers and their intentions. If you can see them struggling, you can hold back to help avoid needless accidents.   The A390 intersects with St Austell Street at the Trafalgar roundabout, and from here, several roads travel into the town centre, such as New Bridge Street and Old Bridge Street, and they join up with Duke Street and Frances Street, running along the City Centre. There are numerous accidents in the city centre. Although the speed limit is lower in urban areas, some collisions have been severe, suggesting that cyclists and pedestrians may have been involved.

The A390 encircles the City Centre and links the A30 at Three Burrows, along Higher Besore Road. This is an especially hazardous route with high collision rates. Again, this could be attributed to non-local drivers exploring the area while on holiday. Many a well-deserved break has been ruined by a collision. There is also a higher number of motorhome and campervan drivers in the area during the summer, and some drivers are not as confident as they should be when driving a bigger vehicle. Therefore, it is vital to give them a wider berth, especially if it looks like the drivers are struggling with directions. This short six-mile stretch of road contains more accidents than the rest of Truro combined, highlighting the need for safer driving practices and increased awareness of the road conditions, especially near Highertown and Trelisk.
