Location Overview – Watford is a historic town in Hertfordshire, 15 miles northwest of Central London, on the banks of the River Colne. At the start of the 20th century, the town grew fast, and new roads were created in Callowland, North Watford, and West Watford, which was farmland before this. Watford stands where the River Colne could be crossed on an ancient trackway from the southeast to the northwest. Watford’s High Street still follows the line of this route. Watford is close to several motorway junctions, the M1 motorway and the M25 London Orbital Motorway, north of the town – this is where we provide a lot of our motorway driver training for clients in the Watford area. The A41 joins the M1 at Elstree, and the
A45 joins the North Orbital road, the A414, which takes you to Cambridge north and towards Oxfordshire to the west. Our Bespoke driver training can really help both private drivers and corporate companies with fleets of drivers. Our highly trained tutors will come to your home or office address, and we will take you out on the road in your own vehicle. Every course will produce a report showing how you improved throughout the session.
Our courses will vary in structure, but courses are based and priced on time duration:
3.5hr – half-day session
7hr session – full-day session, which can be split between two drivers if necessary
2 x 3.5hr – two half-day sessions
3 x 3.5hr sessions – three half-day sessions.
Longer Duration Courses:
Our fully tailored 3, 4 and 5 x 3.5hr half-day sessions are suited, for those with specific issues with driving, such as driving anxiety, significant driving issues on particular roads, or who may not have driven for a very long time. These longer courses are booked mainly by private individuals, although they are also open to our business clients.
These longer-duration courses are great for those facing particular (often very specific) issues, as building up your skill and confidence levels can take time. The time between the sessions will also be valuable as it allows you to reflect, absorb and practise what has been covered in the earlier sessions.
Contact us for more advice:
We would be delighted to chat with you and discuss your exact needs. We are trained to advise on the course information and how the courses run, and we also have a non-judgemental approach for drivers who wish to open up and discuss specific issues. For many people, this is the first step in reaching out on their journey to confident driving.
Road Safety Risks and Information – Watford
Watford, a bustling town to the north of London, is served by the M25, M1, and A41. Unfortunately, accident rates in this area, which is close to London, are significantly higher than those of other towns of similar sizes. Your safety is of the utmost importance to us, and we want to ensure you are well-informed about the road safety risks in this area.
At junction 15 of the M25, there are numerous collision sites as the route travels to meet the A41, with many of them on the slip roads of the intersection. This could be due to last-minute panics of missing the junction and quick moves across lanes, which can be leathal. Identifying your exit lane on busy motorways as early as possible is crucial to avoid collisions. Additionally, be vigilant for any drivers around you who may be attempting last-minute lane changes and give them space when approaching busy junctions. Junction 20 links Watford Road, and again, there are many needless accidents occurring on the intersection and slip roads. You can never predict other drivers’ moves, so it’s important to be fully aware and prepared to adjust your position or hold back. Good observational skills will greatly assist in this.
The A41 travels toward Watford via the North Western Avenue and from The Dome intersection, St Albans Road, A412, merging into Rickmansworth Road. This route passes through a highly residential area and is also shared with public transport stops. Accidents along this route are likely to involve pedestrians and cyclists, making it crucial to be extra vigilant when driving in residential areas. Even though the speeds are lower, the collisions can be severe. Some of the worst affected areas are the St Albans Road from Gammons Lane to Bedford Street and the Station Road junction. The A411, Beechen Grove, runs along the northern edge of Watford Centre, and Exchange Road runs along the western edge; both of these routes are riddled with accident sites, especially along the A4178, Merton Road. Urban driving can be very challenging, especially during rush hours, so staying alert and paying attention to the entire road, not just the way ahead, is essential.
This is just a brief overview of collision sites in the Watford area. If you have specific roads you frequently travel on and are interested in learning which parts are at higher risk of collisions, we encourage you to reach out to us. We provide a free-of-charge service to anyone who wants to enhance their road safety knowledge in the area.
