Bedford does not have a motorway running through, but it does have excellent A road links that will quickly get you across the area, with the A6 running from Luton to Kettering and the midlands and the A421 linking the M1 and the A1.
Joining the A6 on either side of the Bedford will be an excellent route to take driver training. You can take in all types of roads, including motorways, within a short distance from home or work. In the last few years, we have trained clients in and around Bedford and also areas including Biddenham Elstow, Renhold and Ravensden. We have trained a mix of private and business clients.
Our courses are door-to-door, and we come to you!
Our courses vary in structure, although we have several courses based on duration:
-3.5hr session
-7hr session (which can be split for two drivers if needed)
-2 x 3.5hr sessions
-3 x 3.5hr sessions
Longer Duration Courses:
Our bespoke 3,4, and 5 x half day (3.5 hours) sessions are suited for those with specific driving issues, driving anxiety, significant driving issues on particular roads, or for those who may not have driven in a long time. These courses are booked mainly by private individuals, although they are also open to our business clients.
The longer courses are great for those facing particular and often very specific issues, as it can take time to build up your skills and confidence levels. The space between each session will also be valuable as it allows you to reflect, absorb and practise what has been covered.

Road Safety Risks and Information – Bedford
Bedford lies between the A1 and the M1 in Bedfordshire and is a highly populated market town with a high volume of traffic daily. The main route crossing Bedford is the A4280, Goldington Road merging into St Peters Street, and this is fraught with accident sites, which tend to occur near the junctions of other roads crossing near traffic light junctions or roundabouts. An area that is a cause of concern along this route is the one-way system of Kimboulton Road and the meeting of the B60 near St Peters Street Car Park, with numerous crash sites noted. Greyfriars and Union Street link to the A6 via Clapham Road, and this route has plenty of crash sites, especially near the Great Ouse Way roundabout. The Tavistock Road linking to Clapham Street is also strewn with accident sites, and again, these occur near junctions when frustration and lack of indications and observations could be possible reasons for the issues. When using large urban roundabouts, it is essential that you are in the correct lane for your exit, but it is also vital for you to be aware of other drivers who may be struggling with their directions, as this is where many collisions can take place.
The Kimboulton Road, B660, travels north from the centre of Bedford, and the dog leg junctions of Polhill Avenue and Park Avenue have seen some severe and a few fatal collisions, so this is a location to be very aware of when driving across this area. The A5141, Ampthill Road leading to the A421 is a hectic road, especially during rush hours, and this is another route that is littered with crash sites, with the worst areas being around the traffic lights near Lynton Grove, where there have been a few fatal accidents and the busy Elstow Interchange of the A421 is showing numerous severe collisions. Further along toward the meeting of the A6, the large urban roundabout has traffic light systems but still has many accident sites, so care and attention to your own driving and other drivers must be paid when using this route. Midland Road and Forde End Road to the west of Bedford town centre are also roads with higher-than-average accident sites. This could be due to narrower streets and public transport routes where passengers may be alighting vehicles and crossing roads without taking care.
This is a short outline of collision sites in Bedford. If you have any specific roads you travel in the area and are keen to discover what parts are at higher risk of collisions, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. We offer a free-of-charge service to anyone interested.
