Location Overview – Newcastle upon Tyne is situated to the north of the River Tyne and is a city in the county of Tyne and Wear, approximately 46 miles south of the border with Scotland. It is the oldest and most populated city in the region, and settlements have been recorded since Roman times. Newcastle upon Tyne was known for its vast shipbuilding industries historically, but in modern days it’s a centre for science, finance, retail, education, tourism, and nightlife service industries. The city is located within the centre of the Northeast Green, in the Tyne and Wear Green Belt. The green belt surrounds Brunswick Village, Dinnington, Hazlerigg, Walbottle, and Woolsington. Popular locations such as Ryton Island, Tyne Riverside Country Park, the city’s golf courses, Newcastle Racecourse, and Newcastle International Airport also fall inside the green belt. The surrounding areas where we have delivered advanced driver training include Kenton, Gosforth, Wallsend, Medburn and Ponteland.
During a session, we typically look at the following:
* Developing an improved attitude towards motoring
* Car control (looking at gears, steering, and use of signals)
* Becoming a more skilful driver on all types of roads
* Undoing years of ingrained bad habits
* Manoeuvres and driving in restricted areas
* Coping and defusing with road rage
* The system of car control – IPSGA
* Driving in busy urban and town locations

* Understand your own limitations and at-risk factors – most of which you won’t be aware of
* Coping with bad weather
* Learn how you and other drivers think when behind the wheel

Once the training is complete, a PDF report will be forwarded to you with several things assessed, such as confidence, forward planning, attitude, vehicle control, etc. This report is beneficial as it’s completely bespoke to the driver and provides valuable tips and insights for future safer driving. Each report is thoroughly verified and documented – proof you’ve had driver training with a DVSA-registered professional.

The A69 heads west to Carlisle; the A696 becomes the A68, travelling past Newcastle Airport and up through central Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. The A167, the old “Great North Road”, heads south to Gateshead, Chester-Le-Street, Durham and Darlington, and the A1058 “Coast Road”, which runs from Jesmond to the east coast between Tynemouth and Cullercoats. Since 2011, the Tyne Tunnel’s capacity has increased with a project to build a second tunnel and refurbish the first tunnel. Our highly trained tutors will come to you while you use your own vehicle for the training.
Half or Full Day?
Our half-day option works best if you want to train many drivers back-to-back. It’s cheaper per head, and your business has less downtime. As a private client, the half-day is ideal if you need a short refresher.
A full-day is suited if you, or a driver, have specific issues, such as low confidence, have received complaints about their driving (company drivers) or for private clients and want more than a half-day training session but wish to get the training done in one day.
We find many clients opt for the full-day session – and book one driver in the morning and one in the afternoon – there is no additional charge for this, and it works well for business clients.

Road Safety Risks and Information – Newcastle
The City Of Newcastle on Tyne is located in the Northeast of the UK on the banks of the River Tyne. It is primarily served by the A1 motorway, which travels through the city from Leeds to Edinburgh, and the A69, which links Newcastle to the M6 at Carlisle.
Newcastle has a thriving port with a high volume of traffic in and out of the area, with many unfamiliar drivers using the routes such as the A695 Scotswood Road, linking to the A1 at the Denton Road Roundabout and the A617 at the Swan House Roundabout via Neville Street. These routes are strewn with collision sites, some being very severe, some sadly fatal, which possibly could have been avoided with more attention to the actions of the other drivers on the road. When using routes that you are unfamiliar with, you must understand your directions and what lane you should be in for exiting your junction; it is often last-minute panics and moving across lanes without looking that can set off a stream of accidents on a busy intersection. If you live in a busy area such as a port where drivers are often foreign or from other parts of the UK, more precautions should be taken for your safety.
The A617 leads into Newcastle City centre from the High Street over the Tyne Bridge, a site of numerous accidents, suggesting excessive speed could be a problem. This route is also used by pedestrians and cyclists, who have been involved in collisions in recent years. Neville Street, which runs along the southern edge of Newcastle City Centre, has many crossing junctions and is a common crash location. Despite the low-speed limit on Neville Street, many accidents here are serious, suggesting that pedestrians and cyclists may be involved. Market Street and Grainger Street have similar accident statistics, with most incidents occurring near road crossings and traffic lights. Driving in inner city environments can be frustrating, especially during rush hours, but it’s during these times that drivers need to be most careful. Paying attention to the actions of other drivers and signalling your intentions can help ensure clarity. A lack of observation and signalling is the most likely cause of many vehicle-on-vehicle accidents, especially in rush hour traffic.
The A186, West Road, leads into Newcastle city centre through a highly residential area. This route is shared with bus stops and small commercial areas where parking opens up to the road. Despite the low speeds here, collisions have been severe due to the involvement of pedestrians and cyclists. Several schools are in the area behind West Street, making it essential for drivers to be vigilant, especially during school run times.
