Location Overview – Wolverhampton is a vibrant and busy city located in the West Midlands, and historically, it was part of Staffordshire. Wolverhampton grew initially from a market town specialising in the wool trade, and in the Industrial Revolution, it became a significant centre for coal mining, steel production, lock making, and later, the manufacture of cars and motorcycles. Wolverhampton’s economy is still based on engineering, including a large aerospace industry and the service sector. Wolverhampton was a very forward-thinking town where the first automatic traffic lights were placed in Princes Square in 1927. Princes Square was also the location of the United Kingdom’s first pedestrian safety barriers, erected in 1934. In 1927, the A4123 New Road was opened, linking the city with Birmingham. The New Road was the United Kingdom’s first purpose-built intercity highway of the twentieth century. Being such a large industrial area, we have carried out many advanced driver training sessions for fleet drivers and private drivers across Wolverhampton and the surrounding towns and villages such as Walsall, Wednesbury, Dudley and Wombourne.
We offer a range of bespoke courses, which include:
* General advanced and defensive courses
* Motorway training
* Performance training
* UK Familiarisation
* Confidence training

* Pre-court assessments
All courses are constructed around the needs and requirements of the individual driver, but below are several things we look at:

* Understanding observational elements of driving (seeing) and building these into your driving plan
* Manoeuvres and reversing (often requested in confidence training)
* How to become a safe driver on urban and rural roads and also motorways

* How to deal with complex and busy traffic environments
* How to understand other drivers and what they may do next
* Learn how you and other drivers think when behind the wheel
You will be issued a driving report after each session – sent by email. Wolverhampton lies northwest of Birmingham, forming the second-largest part of the West Midlands. To the north and west lies the Staffordshire and Shropshire countryside. The Wolverhampton Ring Road, the A4150, orbits the city centre, linking the majority of the city’s radial routes and the five A roads that are joined to it, creating easy and fast routes across Wolverhampton and the whole of the Midlands. The M54, which we use for a lot of 2-lane motorway training, circles the city’s north, taking you towards Telford and the Shropshire border to the west and joins the M6 to the east. We have carried out advanced driver training across Wolverhampton and the surrounding towns since 2011 with fantastic results. We have trained many unconfident drivers to develop their skills and become much more confident on all types of roads, including motorways. Our highly qualified and experienced tutors will come to your chosen address and take you out to train on the road in your own car or van, including campervans and motorhomes.
Half or Full Day?
Our half-day option works best if you want to train many drivers back-to-back. It’s cheaper per driver, and your business has less downtime. As a private client, a half-day is ideal if you need a short refresher.
A full day is more suited if you or a driver has specific issues, such as limited confidence, complaints about their driving (company drivers) or if you’re a private client and want more than a half-day training session but want to get the training done and dusted in one day.
We find many clients opt for the full-day session – and book one driver in the morning and one in the afternoon – there is no additional charge for this, and it works really well for business clients.

Road Safety Risks and Information – Wolverhampton
Wolverhampton is a bustling city located to the west of Birmingham and is served by several fast A road routes such as the A41, A449 and the A459. The M6 motorway brushes the eastern edge of Wolverhampton, and junction 10 links the Black Country Route into Wolverhampton City Centre and the A454, where junction 10a links the M54, which travels across the north of Wolverhampton, linking to the A460 Cannock Road and the Stafford Road A449. All of these routes are very busy and fast, with numerous accident statistics strewn across the entire area. It’s crucial to be cautious and observant on these routes to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
The A4150 ring road circles the city centre, and the Stafford Street four-way traffic light junction is quite challenging as it links both sides of the A4150 Ring Road St Peters and Ring Road St Patricks and the Stafford Street directly into the centre via Wulfruna Street and Broad Street at the roundabout. Again, several severe accidents have occurred on this route, and many could have been avoided with a little more patience and a lot more forward planning with precise observations and good indications, allowing other drivers to see your intentions. In turn, you should be looking to read their intentions as well. The A454 Chapel Ash also has very high accident rates, and these occur near every road crossing and traffic light junction, suggesting that better observations can make a huge difference in arriving safely or being caught up in chaos, which is not always of your making. One of the worst affected areas is the traffic light system joining Bath Road and Merridale Road, where numerous collisions have happened in the past few years, especially during rush hours.
Wolverhampton retail centre is pedestrianised in many areas, but the roads near the centre have numerous collision sites, especially along Darlington Street and Cleveland Street. Some of the collisions along these roads have been quite severe, suggesting that pedestrians and cyclists may have been involved. It is vital that when driving in busy inner city areas, you pay extra attention to the kerbside and watch out for pedestrians who may try to cross the road in front of a bus or a cyclist who is trying to find space or is stopped at traffic lights, it is essential to give them as much room as possible to avoid such accidents.
If you have any specific roads you travel on in Wolverhampton and the surrounding area and are curious to understand what parts are at higher risk regarding collisions, don’t hesitate to contact us. We understand the importance of your road safety, which is why we offer a free-of-charge service to anyone interested. This service is designed to support you and provide the information you need to stay safe on the roads.
