High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire is an ideal location for our advanced driving courses, as it is close to a wide range of roads. The M40, which runs just to the south of the town, allows us to quickly and easily provide motorway training, which forms one of a number of bases we cover with our courses.

We also look at rural road driver training to help make a driver safer and more skilled on these higher-risk roads. We often head north towards Milton Keynes, or west towards Swindon for rural road training, as both these routes have a good range of rural roads to hand, where to can focus on developing a driver and teach things like the limit point, system of car control and commentary driving. There are other areas of Buckinghamshire we also like to provide training in.

Remember – All our driving courses are bespoke to your own needs. For both business and private clients.

Road Safety Risks and Information – High Wycombe

High Wycombe is situated near the M40 to the northwest of London; at junction 4, it meets the A404, which runs through the centre of the town and the A4010, which veers off to the west.

There are high accident statistics within the High Wycombe area, and because most of the southern traffic flows into the town from junction 4 of the M4, there are numerous collision sites on the challenging Handy Cross roundabout. It links the Wycombe Road, Marlow Hill, A404, and the A4010 John Hall Way. Coming off a fast and busy motorway requires precise observations and indications, a good sense of direction, and exact lane exiting; it only takes one of these to be missing for a collision to happen. When there is a choice of a few busy A roads to choose from, it is vital that you are in the right lane. Numerous collisions on the Handy Cross roundabout suggest that poor lane positioning was to blame. The statistics are similar at Junction 2 of the M40, the Beaconsfield Roundabout.

The A4010 leaves the M40 and heads out along John Hall Way, merging into New Road and Chapel Road to join the A40, West Wycombe Road. The collisions found along this route are numerous and mainly occur near roundabouts, traffic lights and road crossings. This is a hectic route as it carries a high amount of traffic from London via the M40 through to Buckinghamshire, as well as local commercial and residential travel. The Cressex Road roundabout is a hazardous area, similar to the meeting of the West Wycombe Road. Cressex Road East is a hotspot for collisions as it joins Marlow Road and the A404, especially during rush hours.

Marlow Road merges onto Marlow Hill, the A404 and into the centre of High Wycombe, and the accidents occur mainly around near the Wycombe Hospital entrances and the A40 Roundabout, where there are numerous collisions as there are five mini-roundabouts in 1 and it is very challenging, especially if unfamiliar with the area. The main Abbey Way travels over the pedestrianised town centre with slip roads into the numerous carparks. This is a fast overpass, and the roundabout at Arch Way and Oxford Road is another area of concern, with many collisions noted. To the west of the town centre, Desborough Road and Desborough Avenue have very high accident rates, especially at the double roundabout linking them both. It is definitely an area to be aware of.

This is only a small outline of collision sites in High Wycombe. If you have any specific roads you travel on in the area and you’re keen to discover what parts are at higher risk in terms of collisions, please contact us. We offer a free-of-charge service to anyone who is interested.
