We offer advanced driving courses across all areas of the UK, including South Yorkshire. The county of South Yorkshire benefits from a highly diverse network of roads, from the M1 and M18, great for motorway driver training, to the busy A635 and A61, along with many rural and unclassified roads – all of which are good training roads for anyone undertaking advanced driver training.
In South Yorkshire, we cover all areas and have already helped many companies and private individuals in Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham.
Remember – Each driving course is totally bespoke to your own specific needs and requirements. This applies to both our business and private client courses.
Training in this county is very much dependent on what you want to achieve as a driver; the routes we take can also vary. We often head out of the county to the east into Lincolnshire or sometimes up to the north, into North Yorkshire. Road Safety Risks and Information – South Yorkshire
There are four motorways in South Yorkshire, the M1, the M18, the A1 and the M180 and several fast A road routes that also cross the county. These routes carry much traffic and have high collision rates that are severe and, sadly, sometimes fatal. It is always important to know where the accident hotspots are for any journey, especially if it is unfamiliar, as this will help you remain safer on the road.
The M1 travels through South Yorkshire from London, ending in Leeds, and is littered with many collision sites throughout the county, especially at junction 31 at the A57 intersection. Junction 33 is another challenging area where the A630 crosses the M1 as well, so that should be used with caution. Junction 37 near Barnsley has had its fair share of incidents involving multiple vehicles and life-changing accidents. The M18 is not quite as busy as the M1, where it links from junction 32, but it does carry a lot of through traffic across to the M180 and Humberside; there are collision sites all along the length of this motorway but especially on the roundabout junction where it meets the A1 at junction 2, and junction 8 where it meets the M180. The motorways in South Yorkshire have more severe and fatal collisions per square mile than other counties of similar size, especially the M1, with its extremely high traffic volume.
The fast A road routes are very busy through South Yorkshire, especially those leading to and from Manchester, Leeds, and Nottingham. The A57 is a fairly rural road leading from Manchester through Glossop, travelling across the Peak District into Sheffield, and it has accident sites scattered along the entire route, many in and around the small town of Glossop itself. The A624 has very similar statistics, and due to the area being very popular with tourists, it is unfortunate that many of these accidents may have involved drivers unfamiliar with the area. The A635 between Rotherham and Doncaster is another fast road that is a hot spot for serious accidents, with many occurring along Fitzwilliam Road, leading to Doncaster Road.
Rural South Yorkshire lies on the edge of the Peak District and has a lot of tourist traffic, with many campervans and caravans using the roads during the summer months and narrow lanes along the west of the county across the Peaks can be hazardous, so it is vital to be extra vigilant when using such roads. The roads between Peniston, Stocksbridge and Dungworth are all littered with collision sites, many very severe.
This is a slim outline of collision sites in South Yorkshire. Please contact us if you have any specific roads you travel on in the area and are keen to discover what parts are at higher risk of collisions. We offer a free-of-charge service to anyone who is interested.
